As we start gearing up for Turkey Trot 2015, it seems appropriate to look back on 2014. We are happy to announce that the 2014 Turkey Trot raised over $28,000 for the Occupational Therapy (OT) department of Spectrum Academy to meet the sensory and motor needs of our students! With this outstanding fundraising total, the OT department has been able to fulfill its wish list of occupational therapy equipment with the goal of helping students improve their academic performance, peer interactions and behavioral challenges. A sampling of the purchased items includes: a large variety of seating options (ErgoErgo, Runtz, Wobble and cube chairs), moon & cuddle swings, vestibular boards, punching bag, and noise-canceling headphones. Our OT professionals and teachers have already seen a difference in our students’ success! Additionally, all teachers should look for sensory boxes coming soon to meet the basic needs in the classroom.
